Manila, Philippines – The Commission on Audit (CoA) has accused the Camarines Norte provincial government of unfairly treating taxpayers by imposing penalties and other surcharges that were computed erroneously.
The 2010 yearend audit report presented by CoA also noted the failure of the administration of Gov. Edgardo Tallado to submit for pre-audit at least 20 disbursement vouchers with a total amount of P15.33 million. This is a violation of CoA Circular 2009-002, CoA said.
COA Region 5 (Bicol) Director Niilda Plaras asked the Tallado administration to make the necessary adjustments and comply with the audit agency’s recommendation on nine audit observations.
“Taxpayers were unfairly charged with interest on unpaid taxes due to incorrect use of rates and erroneous computation,” State auditors revealed. (Ben R. Rosario)
