Kyosei – a word which the Canon group swears by. Roughly translated in Filipino, this Japanese term means bayanihan. Canon has been dedicated to its vision of being an excellent corporate citizen and this is exemplified in the different corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs that it advocated.
With the recent calamity that claimed enormous damages to lives and properties, Canon’s Philippine group of companies recently donated Php 2 million to Gawad Kalinga Foundation (GK) to help fund its relief operations for Typhoon Yolanda victims.
The supertyphoon claimed more than 4,000 lives and injured 18,000 more. Material damages are estimated at Php 10 billion.
“The Filipino spirit is resilient but a helping hand is much-needed. Typhoon Yolanda was the biggest we have seen in years and it is devastating. We hope that this donation will go a long way and we look forward to seeing our kababayans stand up again,” said Alan Chng, CMPI President & CEO.
Volunteer employees, executives included, also dedicated a day to join GK’s Operation Walang Iwanan where they helped pack relief goods at the Quezon City Command Center located in the grounds of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
The donation was received by Gawad Kalinga head for partnerships Reynaldo Cajulis and Southern Luzon area coordinator Jose Emilio Oquiñena. Meanwhile, Pilipinas Natin!, the Philippine government’s corporate social responsibility arm, assisted in the proper distribution of goods to people in the affected areas.
The donation was a combined contribution from the employees and the four (4) Canon companies in the Philippines: Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc., Canon Information Technologies, Inc. (ci-tech), Canon Business Machines Philippines, Inc. (CBMP) and Canon IT Solutions Philippines, Inc. (CITS).
