Manila, Philippines – Manila Bulletin/Tempo reporter Ellalyn B. de Vera was awarded by the Philippine Meteorological Society (PMS) last Thursday for “her valuable contribution in promoting meteorology in the country through her news articles.“
De Vera was given the 1st PMS Innovation Award during the PMS’ 7th National Meteorological Hydrological Convention at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysi cal, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Science Garden in Quezon City.
The 1st PMS Innovation Award gives accolade to individuals and institutions who have ingeniously contributed to the science of meteorology in the Philippines.
The award was presented by Agham party-list Rep. Angelo Palmones, PAGASA Administrator Dr. Nathaniel Servando, and PAGASA Hydrometeorology Division chief and PMS president Dr. Susan Espinueva.
“We have to thank our partners in media for bringing the interest of the public to meteorology down to the households. The perception of the public on weather forecasting has changed and evolved because of the effective reporting of our media friends. That is the reason why we are recognizing their efforts today,“ Palmones said.
