THE USTV Students Choice Award (USTV-TSCA) by the 405-year-old University of Santo Tomas seeks truthful and free election coverage from TV networks.
On its 12th year, USTV-SCA carries the theme “Veritas in Caritate: The Youth Empowering the Family through Modern Media.” It focuses on socio-political dimensions of TV programs and social media campaigns.
USTV-SCA serves as a means for the students to voice out their views on mainstream media. Some 44,000 Thomasian students vote through the University’s online portal called e-LeAP or e-Learning Access Program.
They select programs, campaigns, and personalities from Feb. 12-March 14 with Catholic virtues in 33 categories with the newly-added Students’ Choice of Social Media Personality for Social Media Development, Social Media Campaign for Catholic Formation, for Social Action, for Environmental Protection, for Socio-Cultural Development, and for Socio-Political Development.
USTV-SCA is considered the frontrunner among other universities’ TV awards that followed suit after the first USTV-SCA in 2005.
The USTV Students Choice Awards will be held on April 21 at the UST Plaza Mayor. It is organized by the UST Office of the Secretary General and the UST Student Organizations Coordinating Council. (PIT M. MALIKSI)
