The Court of Tax Appeals has issued another warrant of arrest against film director Carlo J. Caparas in connection with the P540 million multiple tax evasion case filed against him by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Department of Justice (DoJ) in 2010.
The court’s Second Divisions in its resolution dated May 12 required the controversial movie director and national artist to post P20,000 bail bond.
Earlier, Caparas of Ayala Alabng Village, Muntinlupa also posted bail bonds to other divisions of the tax court hearing the same case after finding probable cause of violating Section 255 of the Tax Code which included failure to file income tax return and pay taxes.
BIR Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares filed 64 counts of tax evasion against Caparas before the DoJ shortly after she was appointed to the post in 2010.
The criminal charges arose from the alleged non-filing of ITR in 2006 to 2009.
For the four-year period, Henares said Caparas received more than P850.9 million from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) for producing television programs featuring lottery winners like “Ang Pangharap Kong Jackpot” and “Kroko.” (Jun Ramirez)
