MANILA Vice Mayor Isko Moreno has said that he might resume his career in show business after he lost in the senatorial race last May 9.
“Family muna at marami kasi akong utang sa mga anak ko. Second, I will do some business. Yung maliit kong negosyo magpo-focus ako. Then I’ll go back to showbiz maybe. Gusto ko mag-talk show kasi pinapanood ko kayo lagi,” said Moreno, in an interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” aired over ABS-CBN.
“I saw you one time at talagang inilabas mo lahat yung galit mo. But sometimes sa talk show kaya mo i-move ang audience,” Moreno, 41, told Abunda.
Given the chance, Moreno said that he wants to work with actress Anne Curtis-Smith in a movie or teleserye. “May asim pa ba ako?” he laughed.
Moreno started a career in showbiz after he was discovered while attending a funeral in Tondo, Manila in 1993. He became part of the youth-oriented program “That’s Entertainment” hosted by the late German Moreno. His first movie break came when he was paired with Claudine Barretto in the movie “May Minamahal” in 1993. The rest is history.
The former actor who used to push cart and sell bottles and old newspapers to junk dealers became a member of the Manila Council for the first district from 1998-2007. Then he was elected Vice Mayor of Manila from 2007-2016.
Moreno, who is Francisco Domagoso in real life, said that his eldest child is now 18 years old. “College na. Actually first time n’yang bumoto. Going to Ateneo de Manila University.” Moreno is married to Diana Lynn Ditan. They have five children.
Abunda lauded Moreno for his colorful journey in politics.
“I know your story and you continue to inspire,” Abunda said.
Asked what he learned in the recent 2016 national elections, Moreno said that life has its ups and downs. This is the first time in 18 years that he lost in politics, he said.
The actor-turned-politician believes that the public is not yet ready for him to become a senator, that’s why he conceded immediately.
Moreno was ranked No. 16 in the 2016 senatorial race with more than 10 million votes.
“Sa paglilibot ko sa maraming lugar, nakitako ang maraming sad state ng ating bansa,” Moreno said.”Nakita ko yung reality sa rural areas. Biro mo, mga 2 or 3 in the afternoon, everybody’s not working, mga nakatambay lang,” he said.
Moreno said that the government must explore tourism as part of the country’s development.
“Kung meron mang beauty sa lesson sa pag-iikot ko sa ibang bansa, masasabi kong napakaganda ng bansa natin. Tourism is one of the key aspects para umunlad ang bansa natin. I’ve seen a lot of islands na hindi masyadong nabibigyan pansin,” he added.
