REIGNING Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach has hinted at running for political office in the future during a live chat with fans of Miss Universe on Facebook recently.
“If Manny Pacquiao can do it, why can’t I?” asked Wurtzbach, who is preparing to leave for Ecuador to join the canonization parties of Machala in the coming days.
A fan asked the Filipino-German beauty queen if she would ever run for the presidency.
“As a kid, I wanted to be Miss Universe. But did it ever cross my mind that it will actually happen because it’s like reaching for the stars. It’s like telling your mom, ‘Mom, I want to be an astronaut,’ and your mom will say, ‘OK, that’s cute. You study, do your assignment,’ “ Wurtzbach said.
“But in my case, who knows? I might never be president but I might run for office. Who knows? I think I can do it,” Wurtzbach said.
Wurtzbach, 26, also said that she is well-informed of what’s happening in Philippine politics despite her one-year stint in New York as Miss Universe.
“Guys, I’ve been on it, puyat ako dahil d’yan. I’m on it all the time. I’m up until 5 a.m. like I wanna know what’s going on. Just because I’m not talking about it does not mean I’m not interested in it,” she said.
Wurtzbach also said that she will appear at the 2016 Miss USA beauty pageant which will be held in Las Vegas on June 5.
“Guys, we’re going back to Las Vegas where it all happened. Now it’s happening again,” she said.
The new Miss USA will succeed Olivia Jordan who won 2nd runner-up at 2015 Miss Universe contest. The winner will also become the new roommate of Wurtzbach in New York.
