In 1984-85, Ramon Fernandez played for Beer Hausen/ Manila Beer after the sudden disbandment of his long-time PBA squad, the Toyota Super Corollas.
Don Ramon was reportedly the highest paid player back then in the PBA, with an estimated P2.5 million contract for two years.
Fernandez was adjudged the PBA Most Valuable Player in 1984 (his second MVP trophy) where he led the Lucio Tan-owned Manila Beer to a surprise second place finish behind Great Taste in the third conference of the same year.
