LOS ANGELES — More bad news for those dying to get tickets to the May 2 fight in Las Vegas.
Mayweather Promotions announced on Wednesday that ticket prices for the world welterweight unification showdown would range from a low of $1,500 to a high of $7,500.
A few weeks ago, it was announced, although unofficially, that the cheapest ticket would retail at $1,000, and that the most expensive will sell for $5,000.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena, venue for the fight, can only accommodate 16,000.
The other prices for the other seats have yet to be finalized and Mayweather Promotions, which has control over these prized passes, is going to come out with another announcement soon.
The skyrockteing price only means one thing for those dreaming of being given a ticket by Pacquiao, who often shells out his own money to buy his friends and followers tickets just to see him fight live.
“No tickets. I am even paying for the tickets for my family,” said Pacquiao.
Because Mayweather Promotions is the lead promoter and its fighter is the A-side, Pacquiao has no choice but to abide by the ‘rules’.
Mayweather is guaranteed $120 million, while Pacquiao is assured of $80 million.
They also have a share in the pay-per-view and other sources of revenue.
In the past, tickets to their big fights retailed at $200 for the cheap seat and between $1,200 to $1,500 for the most coveted one.
“Everything about this fight is big,” said Pacquiao, shaking his head in disbelief.
