Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is expected to name Frankie Lim as the new coach after the team’s early quarterfinal playoff exit in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
A source confirmed this yesterday, as Lim will start calling the shots when the popular yet underachieving squad resumes training session on Monday in preparation for the Governors’ Cup.
“Yes, coach Frankie will take over,” said the source who asked not to be named pending a formal announcement of the team.
Lim will replace coach Ato Agustin, who was re-elevated as bench tactician of the team after management severed ties with coach Jeff Cariaso after the Philippine Cup when Ginebra was ousted in the quarterfinals.
Tempo could not reach Lim for comment.
Lim, who steered the San Beda College Red Lions to four championships in five years in the NCAA, will coach in the PBA for the first time.
A former player known for his physical plays and intensity, Lim is expected to inculcate the same characteristics to Ginebra players.
