Police killed the No. 1 most wanted person in Subic, Zambales in an intense gunfight Saturday.
Director Victor Deona, head of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said Reggie Calledo’s companions were also killed in the encounter in Sitio Bukid, Barangay Calapacuan, Subic. They were unidentified.
Deona said the gun battle lasted for four hours as the suspects refused to surrender and instead stood their ground.
Armed with a warrant of arrest for homicide for Calledo, police hatched an operation to capture the suspect.
The CIDG sought the assistance of the PNP Special Action Force to assist them in serving the arrest warrant as intelligence reports indicated that Calledo’s group is heavily armed.
“When our team arrived, they were fired upon by Calledo,” said Deona.
A fierce gun battle erupted as Calledo was reportedly backed by two other persons.
Found during the clearing operations were an M16 Armalite rifle, a 9mm automatic machine pistol, and magazines and bullets for the two firearms.
Deona said Calledo, popularly known as “Matar in Subic, was involved in various criminal activities in Subic and nearby areas.
“This operation is still part of our anti-criminality campaign and focused operations against country’s most wanted persons,” said Deona.
Nobody was killed or wounded in the government side.
