A 23-year-old housemaid stabbed herself to avoid being brought to the police station for allegedly stealing from her employer on Maundy Thursday in Quezon City, police said yesterday.
Initial investigation disclosed that Catherine Ladores, 30, a Customs employee, confronted the suspect, Leonila Gaitera, of Barangay Old Balara, about her absences at work and missing items in her home
Ladores called the police to bring Gaitera to the Batasan Hills police station to settle the dispute but she picked up a knife and stabbed herself on the stomach.
Gaitera was brought to the Malvar Hospital and was later transferred to the East Avenue Medical Center where she is now recuperating.
Although the incident was ruled as an attempted suicide, the theft case that Gaitera is facing will still be under investigation, police said. (Betheena Kae Unite)
