IBA, ZAMBALES – Become a tourist, farmer or a TESDA graduate?
With less than three months remaining in power, President Aquino is studying his post-presidency career options, including most recently the possibility of enrolling in a skills training program.
In his visit to Iba, Zambales last Tuesday, the President admitted that earning a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) degree might empower him to earn a bigger salary once he has moved out of the Palace.
“Kung narinig niyo si Joel, kadalasan sinasabi niya pagtapos ko raw ho dito sa trabahong ito mag-apply ako ng scholarship sa TESDA dahil kadalasan po ‘yung mga graduate nila doble ang sweldo sa Pangulo ng Republika ng Pilipinas,” Aquino said.
“Kaya malamang ‘pag after one year, sasamahan ko na siyang – hihingi ako ng scholarship doon para mayroon naman akong mas magandang trabaho,” said Aquino whose basic monthly salary is around P120,000.
The President made the comment while highlighting the gains of his administration, including the effective implementaiton of TESDA’s Training For Work Scholarship Program, during his Zambales visit.
This TESDA program has produced nine million graduates with job placement rate reaching 72 percent, Aquino said.
Last March, the President said he was exploring livelihood opportunities, including going into farming, once he steps down from office this June. Aquino said his job options were limited since the president is prohibited from working in industries that were previously under his supervision at least for a year.
