Elorde grandsons Juan Martin “Bai” Elorde and Juan Miguel “The Boss” Elorde face tough Indonesian foes as they headline a boxing promotion that will highlight the 16th Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Memorial Awards and Banquet of Champions on March 29.
The eldest of the two, Juan Martin will try to snatch the vacant WBO Oriental jr lightweight championship when he faces Musa “Andy” Letding of Indonesia.
Juan Miguel meanwhile will stake his WBO Asia-Pacific junior featherweight crown against Waldo Sabu of Indonesia.
The two are grandsons of the late great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde who reigned supreme in a historic run as world junior lightweight champion from 1960 to 1967.
Meantime a pair of young prospects fighting out of the Elorde stable are slated to see action in the card to be held at the posh Grand ballroom of the Sofitel Hotel.
Newly crowned WBC international champion Giemel Magramo will face John Bajawa in the supporting mainer while WBC No.
1 junior flyweight contender and OPBF champion Jonathan Taconing will also see action in an exhibition bout for boxing aficionados.
Taconing is preparing for a world title fight against Ganigan Lopez of Mexico sometime first week of July.
The Banquet of Champions will also honor Boxers of the year Rey Singwancha Loreto (IBO light flyweight champ) and Randy Petalcorin (WBA light flyweight titleholder).
The focal point of the rites is the “Casting of Fists” where the first batch of all-time Philippine greats will have their fists cast in stone which will be a permanent part of the Elorde Hall of Fame.
