Reigning WBO superbantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. promised a knockout ending in his upcoming title defense this weekend down south.
Headlining a card bolstered by bouts featuring young prospects of international outfit ALA Promotions, Donaire has declared his readiness to manhandle title challenger Zsolt Bedak of Hungary.
“No less than a knockout in the 6th round,” said Donaire, Jr. in meeting the local media of Cebu.
The five-division world champion Donaire (36-3, 23 KOs) will be up against an Olympian who stopped Mexican fighter and future three division world champion Abner Mares in the first round during the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Bedak’s (25-1, 8 KOs) only defeat came in the hands of former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vasquez Jr of Puerto Rico via 10th round knockout in a world title bout in 2010.
Also seeing action in the card set this Saturday at the Cebu Sports Complex is unbeaten ALA fighter Mark Magsayo who will face one-time world title challenger Chris Avalos of the United States in a 12-round featherweight bout. (Dennis Principe)
