Global once again displayed the form that won them the UFL Cup title two weeks ago after pummeling Stallion, 4-2, on Sunday in the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Misagh Bahadoran scored two goals while Hikaru Minegishi also found the back of the net as Global started its bid for a UFL double with a convincing victory.
“It’s my best start to the league. It’s absolutely brilliant to start the league not playing catch up,” said Global coach Leigh Manson, who lost his debut match in the league two years ago to the Loyola Meralco Sparks and were held to a draw by Green Archers United in last year’s league opener.
In other results, Green Archers United was held to a 1-all draw by sister team Forza while Nomads won via forfeiture over MSA Agila.
Bahadoran and Minegishi put Global up 2-0 in the first 11 minutes as they made former Global goalkeeper and Stallion starter Roland Sadia a busy man behind the sticks.
Minegishi rebounded a Bahadoran miss nine minutes after the opening whistle before the latter chipped the ball past Sadia to double Global’s lead.
Stallion made it interesting in the 33rd when Doctora scored the cut the margin in half, but Christian Nana conceded an own goal off a corner before the hour mark, giving Global a 3-1 lead.
Bahadoran completed his brace in the 77th with a left-footed strike for a 4-1 lead as Global virtually gained the maximum three points.
