Philippines’ top junior player Alberto Lim Jr. fell short of his first title bid this season after losing in the final round of the Asian B1 ITF Pune Open Junior Tennis Championships in India yesterday.
The 16-year-old Lim, who is seeded second in this tournament, failed to come up with his aggressive plays and yielded to eighth pick Naoki Tajima of Japan, 6-3, 6-1.
It was still an impressive finish for Lim despite the loss in his second tournament for this year since making into the main draw round for the first time at the Australian Open Junior Championships last January.
Lim only dropped two sets prior to his finals loss as he beat India’s Siddhant Banthia, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2; India’s Adil Kalyanpur, 6-3, 6-2; Japan’s Yunosuke Tanaka, 7-5, 6-1; and Japan’s Yuta Shimizu, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-3.
Despite the failed title attempt, Lim is expected to improve his current ranking of No. 31. (Kristel Satumbaga)
