Philippine Airlines, the country’s flag-carrier, is determined to ferry Team Philippines to the 2016 Rio Olympics despite its absence of direct routes to Brazil, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said.
PSC chairman Richie Garcia met with PAL’s high-ranking executives and Rio Games chief of mission Joey Romasanta to determine whether the airline can lend a hand to the country’s cause during the Aug. 5 to 21 sportsfest.
“PAL said that they will reach out to their (foreign) airline partners how to bring the Philippine delegation to Rio,” said Garcia.
“I expect them to get in touch with us very soon,” said Garcia, noting that PAL can offer no limits on luggage (weight) and an attractive discount on tickets and other hefty fees.
