7:30 p.m. – Nagaworld vs Global
UFL Cup champion Global launches its bid to finally win the title in the Lion City as it battles Cambodian side Nagaworld tonight in the Singapore Cup at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Global, which made the semifinals of Singapore’s annual cup competition twice since debuting in 2013, battles the Phnom Penh-based squad at 7:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to a two-legged quarterfinal against Tampines Rovers.
The current leader of the UFL league season is out to continue its impressive run of form this year, having won 12 of its 13 matches, including the conquest of the UFL Cup last month.
Responsible for Global’s impressive form are striker Misagh Bahadoran, Daisuke Sato, Amani Aguinaldo, Hikaru Minegishi and goalkeeper Patrick Deyto.
The team coached by Scottish-born Leigh Manson are hoping to progress in the Singapore Cup final this time after losing in the semis last year to eventual champion Albirex Niigata.
Global is one of two teams playing in the Singapore Cup, joining UFL rival Ceres-La Salle.
Ceres is slated to take on the Young Lions tomorrow night at the same venue, or five days removed from losing the AFC Cup round of 16 to Hong Kong’s South China in Bacolod City.
