Philippines’ No. 1 netter Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi of Belarus fell short in their title campaign for the second straight Grand Slam appearance after losing in the third round of the French Open doubles on Sunday night.
The 10th-seeded Huey and Mirnyi couldn’t match up to the intensity of French tandem Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin and bowed, 6-4, 6-4.
Meanwhile, PH’s top junior netter AJ Lim marched into the second round of the boys’ singles after edging wildcard bet Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine of France, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
The victory arranged the 16-year-old Lim a date with third pick Ulises Blanch of the United States, who thrashed Portugal’s Duarte Vale, 6-2, 6-2.
Lim is also seeing action in the boys’ doubles where he and Turkish partner Ergi Kirkin are set to meet Spaniards Eduard Guell Bartrina and Nicola Kuhn in the first round.
