Cignal came through crucial plays as it bested stubborn newcomer Bounty Fresh, 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10, yesterday in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Ysay Marasigan of Ateneo and Raymark Woo of La Salle teamed up for the HD Spikers this time to spearhead with 20 and 14 points, respectively, and join former champion Instituto Estetico Manila (IEM) Spikers in the winning column.
Marasigan highlighted his performance with 16 kills and four blocks, even as Woo had 12 hits.
Holdovers Herschel Ramos and Edmar Bonono also sparkled for Cignal with 13 and 10 points, respectively, as the HD Spikers hung tough in the fifth set despite the persistent attempts of the Soaring Griffins.
Vince Mangulabnan also silently contributed for Cignal with 35 excellent sets.
Cignal, likewise, relied on its solid net defense by posting 12 blocks, making up from their 41 woeful errors.
Romnick Rico and Jason Sarabia topscored in a losing cause for Bountry Fresh with 15 points apiece, while Jeric Gacutan and Philip Bagalay chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.
