COMEBACK – Heard that Charo Santos is making a movie comeback now that she’s freed from so much responsibility as ABS-CBN president. The movie will be directed by award-winning director (here and abroad) Lav Diaz.
Hopefully it won’t be an eight-hour or even four-hour saga like “Hele” and “Batang Westside,” both acclaimed. But then few get to watch them.
In case people have forgotten, or don’t know, Charo has an Asian best actress award for her very first film, “Itim,” back in the ’70s.
And that she made such fine films as “High School Circa ’69,” “Brutal,” “Hindi Mo Ako Kayang Tapakan,” “Agila,” opposite Fernando Poe, Jr.

SILVER MMK – “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” the ABS-CBN drama anthology hosted by Charo Santos is celebrating its 25th year, with specials airing week after week.
But then silver MMK makes exceptionally good teledramas with or without any special occasion.
MMK taps the finest actors and directors in weekly episodes based on letters by viewers. MMK also gives breaks to newcomers, be they directors, actors or writers.
Olive Lamasan years back directed “MMK The Movie,” which started her brilliant career as filmmaker.
For a follow-up movie, why not a trilogy based on MMK letters? Of course, Charo will be the host. Perhaps, she can even topbill an episode.
By the way, Charo also produced such memorable movies as “Kailan Mahuhugasan ang Kasalanan,” “Kapag Langit ang Humatol,” and “Nagsimula sa Puso.”
