ACTRESS Andi Eigenmann recalled her excitement when she met Hollywood star Kirsten Dunst who raved about the film “Ma’ Rosa” in Cannes recently.
“S’ya (Kirsten) yung kumausap sa amin. Pumunta s’ya sa mom ko and sinabi n’yang ‘I’m a fan. I’ve watched your movie and I really loved you. And your eyes are so expressive.’ She was really talking to us. Kinakausap n’ya kami na parang mga kaibigan. Ang sarap ng feeling,” said Eigenmann, during an interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” on ABS-CBN.
Dunst, who played Mary Jane Watson in “Spiderman” movies, won a Cannes Best Actress trophy for the movie “Melancholia” in 2011.
Jaclyn Jose, mother of Eigenmann, is this year’s Best Actress in Cannes for the Brillante Mendoza film “Ma’ Rosa.”
She is the first Filipino and Asian actress to win in the acting category of the prestigious film festival in Europe.
“Sinabi n’ya (Dunst) sa akin, ‘I really like your mom’s speech because it was so real. It made me cry. Tapos sinabi n’ya rin sa mom ko ’yun,” Eigenmann said.
Asked the reason why Dunst became emotional about her mom’s speech, Eigenmann said: “I feel like it’s the first time na nakakita sila ng taong nagawaran ng ganitong parangal na sobrang heartfelt na I don’t think that they understand how big of a deal is this not just to my mother but to the whole country.”
“This is big deal to us. This is an honor just to be in an elevator with you and you’re talking to me,” she told Dunst.
Eigenmann said that Dunst, a member of the Cannes jury, told her that she loved their movie and even praised the performance of the cast.
Eigenmann, 25, said that her mother took her to Cannes to experience what it was like to be in an international film festival.
When her mother was announced best actress, she joined her on stage in accepting the award. “This is my daughter.
She is also part of the film,” Jose told the audience.
Eigenmann said that her tears started to flow when she shared the limelight with her mom on stage.
It was the second time for Jose to attend the annual film festival in France. The first happened when the film “Serbis” starring Coco Martin competed in 2009.
“This is my dream. This is what I wanted to achieve ever since. I wanted to be in a film that would be recognized abroad,” Eigenmann said.
Quitting showbiz?
Eigenmann admitted to Abunda that she had planned to quit show business.
“Yes that’s true. I’ve been away from work for a while. I entered the industry knowing that when I wake up one day, tapos na. Nung naramdaman ko ‘yun, sabi ko parang OK lang. If it’s not meant to be, maybe there’s something else for me. So I decided to do things like soul searching. I just found myself being so genuinely contented with life. But there’s one thing missing: that’s showbiz,” she said.
