Global continued its impressive run of form since the year began after beating Kaya, 3-0, on Sunday to extend its lead in the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The UFL Cup champions drew goals from Ivorian midfielder Serge Kaole and Japanese winger Hikaru Minegishi before an own goal by Kaya’s Japanese defender Masa Omura completed their fifth win in as many matches in the league competition.
Global improved to 15 points to jump five clear of second-running JP Voltes, which was held to a scoreless draw by Stallion in an earlier match.
The squad of Scottish coach Leigh Manson has been on tear this year, having won 13 of 14 matches in all competitions, including its successful conquest of the UFL Cup last April and a victory over Nagaworld in the preliminary round of the Singapore Cup.
“Kaya were dangerous until the end,” said Manson. “I’m proud of the players because every game it keeps getting difficult to keep this run of games going.”
Kaya, playing its first match since being knocked off by Malaysian powerhouse Johor Darul Ta’zim in the AFC Cup round of 16, absorbed its second loss of the season.
