Mike Tolomia starred for league-leading Phoenix fending off AMA Online Education, 97-89 Monday in the 2016 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
Without Mac Belo and Roger Pogoy, both nursing hamstring injuries, Tolomia took charge, firing 14 of his 27 points in the first period to erect an early 26-13 advantage which would go as high as 23, 70-47.
AMA, however, refused to go down, chipping away the lead to as low as six, 95-89 with a pair of Gene Belleza free throws with 53.3 seconds to play.
But Alfred Batino was there to quash the rally, nailing his freebies with 21.3 ticks remaining to seal the deal for the Accelerators.
“Siyempre di ka naman dapat makuntento. Kita naman evident na wala pa yung consistency na hinahanap ko,” said coach Eric Gonzales.
