Former PBA coach Joe Lipa, now a special consultant with the Mahindra Enforcers, recently called on his ex-import Dexter Shouse for help to find a reinforcement for the coming PBA Governors ‘ Cup.
“We asked Dexter to help us look for an import,” bared Lipa, who teamed up with Shouse at Formula Shell decades ago when the Philsports Arena (formerly known as ULTRA) was nicknamed the House of Shouse.
Shouse’s scouting led the way to the expansion team landing a young but athletic forward in Jason White, with Lipa gushing over his potential.
White, a high-flying 6-foot-5 forward, recently finished playing college ball at Georgia Tech where he spent one season – his senior year – after suiting up for University of Arkansas Little Rock from freshman to junior year.
“I believe he just finished his college and that he’s first professional stint is with us,” said Mahindra assistant coach Chris Gavina, recently tapped by management to call the shots since coach Manny Pacquiao – the boxing legend – is busy with his work as newly-elected Philippine senator. Gavina’s position was previously held by Chito Victolero.
“He’s athletic and he’s a very high energy guy. We also like his attitude. Though he’s young, he’s a leader. He gave a speech to the team and he challenged his teammates to set a high goal because he’s going to work hard,” added Gavina.
The 22-year-old White had his best stat line with the Trojans last year where he averaged 11.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.7 shot blocks per game. As a Yellow Jacket, White averaged just 3.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.
