The Miss World Philippines pageant takes its annual contest to the next level after it partnered with Viva Films to help fulfill its promise to better the lives of beauty queens and other qualified contestants in terms of opportunity, success, and fame.
“I am happy to partner with Viva, especially with Vic del Rosario whom I have known for many years. We have the same goal which is to give opportunity to all Filipinas who are qualified and to improve their lives,” said Cory Quirino, Miss World Philippines franchise holder, at the launch of the new partnership at the Viva offices in Pasig City recently.
Quirino said that the event also marked the start of the official search for Miss World Philippines 2016.
Del Rosario said he is hopeful that Viva Films would be able to discover new television or even movie stars through the pageant.
“Miss World will be better, with more glitz and content. Not only will every candidate be trained to become a beauty queen or a commercial model but perhaps even a movie or TV star,” he said.
Quirino recalled how the partnership with Viva Films came about. “When we got the license in 2011, I told myself I cannot do this alone. I need a formidable partner whois a giant in the entertainment industry. And whoever that partner would be, I still have no name. No image in my mind.
So from that wish and that desire, my partner has finally arrived and that’s Boss Vic.”
Also at the launch were reigning winners of Miss World Philippines – Hillarie Danielle Parungao, Miss World Philippines 2015; Marita Cassandra Naidas, 1st Princess; Mia Allyson Howell, 2nd Princess; and Ma. Vanessa Wright, 3rd Princess.
The Philippines captured its first Miss World crown after Megan Young won the title, barely two years after the Miss World Philippines was staged in 2011.
Other successful Filipinas who represented the Philippines in the Miss World contest were Gwendoline Ruais (2011, first runner-up), Queneerich Rehman (2012, Top 8), Valerie Weighmann (2014, Top 25) and Hillarie Parungao (2015, Top 6).
Established in 1951, the Miss World contest is the longest-running beauty contest in the world.
The Miss World Philippines 2016 finals will be held sometime in August or September.
