CAMP OLIVAS, San Fernando City, Pampanga – A farmer was allegedly killed over a missing carabao and his body burned afterwards by two men in General Natividad, Nueva Ecija last Friday.
Reports submitted to the Police Regional Office 3 identified the slain victim as Danilo Saad, 54, of Barangay Paludpod, Laur, Nueva Ecija.
SPO1 Nonato Aguilar and PO2 Harold Reyes, case investigators, said the suspects were positively identified by the victim’s live in partner, Lilia Reyes, 52, of Barangay Panacsac, General Natividad, as Romano Calanday, alias “Oman”, 48; and Green Baremeri, alias “Dagul”, 46, both farmers from Barangay San Roque, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.
Investigation showed that the suspects entered the victims’ shanty in Sitio Sagingan, Barangay Balaring, General Natividad where Saad and Reyes were staying.
Police said the suspects suddenly stabbed Saad and burned the victim along with their shanty. Reyes was spared from the attack.
Reyes said the suspects were under the influence of alcohol when they entered their shanty.
PO2 Reyes said before the incident, witnesses saw the victim having a confrontation about the missing carabao of Oman during that day.
“Possibleng ito ang dahilan o motibo ng pagpatay, pero tinitingnan din natin ang ibang angulo,” said PO2 Reyes.
Aguilar said they were informed by Jose Mandia, chairman of Barangay Balaring, that a cadaver was found in a ricefield. Police went to the area and saw the victim’s burned body and house.
A follow-up operation was immediately conducted that resulted into the arrest of the suspects. (Franco G. Regala)
