Kobe Paras won’t be able to don the famous blue and gold uniform of the UCLA Bruins after a failure in a meeting a certain academic requirement forced him to withdraw from the school on Wednesday.
UCLA confirmed Paras’ withdrawal in a statement, saying that the son of PBA legend Benjie Paras failed to meet academic conditions that would formalize his entry to the prestigious US NCAA Division I.
“Incoming freshman guard Kobe Paras, admitted upon condition to UCLA, has withdrawn from the university due to academic conditions of his admission not being met,” the university said.
The botched stint at UCLA came months after the 6-foot-6 guard signed a letter of intent to play for the Bruins.
UCLA coach Steve Alford heavily recruited Paras, who had an impressive high school career at Los Angeles Cathedral High.
Los Angeles Cathedral High principal John Montgomery said in a Los Angeles Times that an “SAT scoring issue” led Paras to find another school despite being an honors student and having succeeded in passing all US NCAA requirements.
The SAT is a test used for admission to US colleges.
