CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – 70 individuals who are said to be engaged in planting marijuana in Kibungan town voluntarily surrendered to the Benguet Provincial Police Office in this province.
According to provincial director Senior Superintendent Florante Camuyot, the surrenderees became aware of the consequences of their illegal work through the seminars done by the local police.
“This is a result of our continuous symposium, lectures and house to house visitation in line with massive campaign of our President Duterte against illegal drugs, not only for shabu, but also marijuana” said Camuyot.
Apart from the 70 marijuana plantation workers, 53 more drug users and seven drug pushers gave themselves up at the Mankayan Municipal Police Station.
They all executed affidavits of undertaking where they agreed not to return to their illegal activities.
Camuyot assures they will continue monitoring these individuals to make sure they will adhere to their agreement.
The towns of Kibungan, Bakun and Kapangan are known to be producing town of marijuana plants.
“This is a good accomplishment for the province and we are hoping a total destruction of these illegal plantations,’” Camuyot added.
Meantime provincial governor Cresencio Pacalso is said to be working on livelihood programs for those who surrendered. (Zaldy Comanda)
