BANTAY, Ilocos Sur – The provincial government of Ilocos Sur is preparing to host an international football game at the newly repaired state-of-the-art sports facility named after former President Elpidio Quirino here.
Gov. Ryan Luis V. Singson said that officials of the Perth Glory Footbal Club of Australia were here to inspect the President Quirino Stadium recently.
The team is set to play against the Philippine Azkals national football squad in an exhibition match at the President Quirino Stadium football on July 27.
“The football game between the Philippine team and the Australian team will pave the start for the holding of international football games in the province,” Singson said. “This will not only inspire the province’s athletes but also boost our local economy,” he added.
Tony Hughes, the club advisor of the Australian Perth Glory soccer team, said that the football field of President Quirino Stadium is an ideal venue for football games in the Philippines. Hughes said the football pitch is ready and has high hopes in the stadium’s future development as constructions around it are still going on. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
