2 p.m. – Arellano vs Mapua (srs)
4 p.m. – Perpetual vs San Beda (srs)
Powerhouse San Beda displayed its might against hapless College of St. Benilde as it cruised to a 90-63 victory yesterday to remain on top of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions gained the upper hand early before ripping the game wide open in the last two quarters to post their fourth straight win.
Fil-American Davon Potts bannered San Beda’s assault with 19 points, including three triples, whiled Donald Tankoua sizzled on both ends by firing 17 points and hauling 14 rebounds.
San Beda led by as many as 27 points despite the struggle of St. Benilde to trim the deficit, showcasing their strength as a team on a mission to regain the title it lost last year.
In the second game, Mapua survived the absence of reigning MVP Allwell Oraeme as it bested Emilio Aguinaldo College, 70-67.
A split from Carlos Isit put the Cardinals ahead, 69-67, with 23 seconds left before a bad pass from Francis Munsayac foiled the Generals’ attempt to tie.
Andoy Estrella sank one of the two charities with seven ticks left to make it a cushion for Mapua as Munsayac missed a buzzer-beater.
It was Mapua’s fourth straight win in as many games, tying San Beda atop the standings.
