Jeson Patrombon squandered a huge 5-1 lead in the second set before succumbing to veteran Chen Ti, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-0, 6-1, yesterday as the Philippines bowed to Chinese Taipei in the Asia Oceania Zone Group II second round tie at the Philippine Columbian Association claycourt in Paco, Manila.
Patrombon, who replaced Francis Casey Alcantara in this first reverse singles, lost his composure after yielding in the second frame to give the Taiwanese a 3-1 tie win.
With Patrombon’s loss, the second reverse singles pitting Ruben Gonzales and Huang Liang-Chi were not played.
Patrombon, a former top local junior netter who currently trains in a tennis academy in Taiwan, appeared playing flawless at the start of the match until Chen managed to crawl back by winning five straight games for a 6-5 lead in the second frame.
