Arellano University and Perpetual Help U seek a share of third place with reigning champion Letran when they battle separate rivals today in NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Chiefs collide with the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 12 noon, while the Altas clash with the St. Benilde Blazers at 4 p.m. with similar goals of improving their respective 3-2 win-loss records.
Still reeling from a 101-86 loss to fancied San Beda, Arellano aims to regain its composure to keep afloat in the standings and strengthen its title bid.
But the Chiefs appear to struggle in closing their game strong as evidenced in their loss over the Red Lions.
Leading in double figures at halftime, Arellano lost steam in the last two quarters particularly on easy field goals.
Still, Arellano coach Jerry Codiñera is confident that hotshot Jio Jalalon, Kent Salado and Lervin Flores will step up anew after finishing in twin figures the last time.
Unlike Arellano, Perpetual is coming off an inspiring 61-55 upset win over Letran last week and will use that victory in facing St. Benilde.
On the other hand, Perpetual Help coach Jimwell Gican casts his eyes anew on Bright Akhuetie, who had a monster performance of 21 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks in their previous victory.
Christian Fajarito and Jj Domingo, meanwhile, are set to lead St. Benilde, whose last defeat came at the hands of Lyceum, 75-68.
Meanwhile, San Sebastian (1-4) and Lyceum (2-3) meet at 2 p.m.
