JUST A THOUGHT: “When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has opened for us.” – Helen Keller

ACTORS WHO CARE: Contrary to widespread perception, a wrong impression, really, actors are among the most caring people there are.
The rush of bad news recently brought out the hero in some of them.
Gerald Anderson enlists himself, together with his younger brother and father, as a special member of the Philippine Coast Guard. Anderson, named auxiliary officer in the Philippine Coast Guard, underwent training to qualify for the post, signifying seriousness in his intent to help Filipinos in times of calamity. Few times in past disasters, Gerald showed his humanitarian side by volunteering as a rescue worker.

GERALD CATCHES UP WITH BEA: By the way, Gerald has an adult, romantic-drama film that is now showing, “How To Be Yours,” where he costars with ex-girlfriend, Bea Alonzo.
Saw the film at a mall the other day. Natural, good acting from both Gerald and Bea. Predictable story, offers little or no surprises.
Gerald has matured considerably, looks-wise, or maybe director Dan Villegas purposely projected him that way to catch or even up with the relatively older Bea. Then again, Bea is refreshingly young-looking throughout the film. A sight to behold.

HELPING HAND FOR DICK: Vivian Velez and Nadia Montenegro lead a fund drive to help character actor Dick Israel, earlier sidelined by a stroke and further incapacitated by a fire that gutted his house in Caloocan recently.

REVIVING JULIO: Earlier, many more entertainment personalities came to the rescue of awarded actor Julio Diaz, who suffered a massive stroke.
Julio’s New York-based sister, Anna Marie R. Datuin, a former film producer, sparked a fund drive that echoed around the world and helped save the life of one of our best actors. Among those who immediately sent financial support to Julio was Coco Martin.

THANKS TO SOCIAL MEDIA: Last but not the least, we thank social media for helping facilitate such swift action in times of emergency. The impact created by this new media –for as long as we use it properly and purposefully – has only stressed its importance and relevance in today’s society. (NESTOR CUARTERO)
