DAVAO CITY – The City Transport and Traffic Management Office here has recommended the closure of popular night spot, the Davao City Night Market along Roxas Avenue, after complaints that the tenants of the small spots in the area were no longer following ordinances.
All 700-plus stalls were no longer allowed to sell their items, ranging from street food to dry goods, Thursday night.
Mayor Sara Z. Duterte ordered the immediate closure, following the advice of the agency.
In a statement from city government, Duterte said that the tenants have started being unruly and disrespectful to the authorities.
Management of the site changed from the city’s Demolition Unit, Sanitation Office, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office during the time of former Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte to the CTTMO on Sara’s term after Mayor Duterte deemed the demolition unit redundant to the functions of the City Engineer’s Office.
“Yes, the city is earning from it, but we cannot bend over backward and be soft on these vendors just because the city is earning from their activities. They need to follow the rules,” said Duterte. (Yas D. Ocampo)
