Nine clubs from five countries will vie for supremacy in four age divisions in the 25th ASEAN Veterans Basketball Championships slated on Aug. 21-27 in two venues.
Aside from perennial champion and host Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) also taking part are Hatyai of Thailand, Hornbill of Sarawak, Malaysia, Miri Kinsar of Malaysia, Brunei, Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, ZAAP Bangkok, Thailand, Meteor Pontianak of Indonesia and ASABA of Indonesia.
Preparations are well underway as FCVBA officials, led by its chairman Jimi Lim and president Lucio “Bong” Tan, intend to make the week-long stay of the participants a memorable one.
“We are leaving no stone unturned to make this year’s event a big success,” said Lim.
The newly-renovated Chiang Kai Shek College gym and the YMCA gym will be used as venues of the event sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Freego Jeans, Rain or Shine and Ironcon Builders with Molten as official ball.
The four age brackets are 40-years and above, 50-years and above, 60-years and above and 65-years above.
The 65-years division has been added to accommodate the big number players who are the 70-year mark.
Tan is hopeful they can complete a grand sweep just like last year when they won all three division titles in Sarawak, Malaysia.
