RIO DE JANEIRO (PNA/TASS) — Two people have been injured when a media bus at the Rio Olympics has been attacked, Brazil’s Estadao portal reports.
One of the passengers has told Tass that the bus came under fire as it was traveling from the Deodoro area to the Main Press Center.
A Games volunteer from Turkey and a journalist from Belarus sustained minor injuries. According to witnesses, the attack sounded like firearms. However, police say stones were thrown at the bus, as windows were broken, not pierced.
Police are investigating the incident, the press service of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee said. The driver said he had heard an unusual noise, but first thought a journalist had dropped some equipment.
He continued driving, but then noticed that the passengers had hit the floor, while one of the bus windows was shattered.
