But the presidential appointee was reportedly eyeing a post at the government network station People’s Television 4.
Reports said that Bondoc, popularly known for his hit single “Let Me Be the One” in 2004, left the post when he realized he was not fit for it.
Last month, netizens criticized the appointment of Bondoc, saying that he lacks the experience as government official.
“I don’t mind people questioning the credentials of some of us appointees,” said Bondoc, 41, a staunch reporter of Duterte, on his Facebook.
“However, I would also like to say that Entertainment is God’s gift to me. I know it back and forth. But I am also willing to learn much more these coming years.”
“I want to serve the next generation, hoping I can make conditions better for them,” he said, adding that he will never steal money from the government-owned corporation.
“If I ever take money or kickbacks and the like, come to my house and cut off my hands;
“Guys, I may or may not be the best man for the job, but it’s a done deal. Watch me use this money from ‘gaming” and transform it into awesome shows, livelihood for my beloved musicians and artists, into joy. Just watch, you have my word;
Aside from Bondoc, other personalities criticized for their appointment in the government were comedian Arnell Ignacio and former reporter Kat de Castro, daughter of former Vice President Noli de Castro.
Ignacio was appointed as the assistant vice president for Pagcor’s Community Relations and Services Department while De Castro, undersecretary for Department of Tourism.
Another celebrity facing similar criticism was veteran folk singer Freddie Aguilar who will be appointed by Duterte as head of the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Aguilar has accepted the appointment. But officials said that the pop icon could not just head the NCCA due to existing rules governing the selection of its chairman.
Bondoc graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University where he finished a degree in AB Communications in 1997.
