As the war against illegal drugs continues, a deadly pattern has unfolded – the alleged drug pushers are armed with guns and are fast to shoot at people they sense are police officers in an entrapment operation.
The latest in the long list of fatalities in the illegal drugs campaign was an alleged drug peddler and his cohort who were killed in a gunfight with operatives of the Manila Police District in Sta. Ana, Manila before dawn yesterday.
Before the exchange of gunfire, members of the MPS Station 6 Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operation Task Unit were preparing to serve a search warrant issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 37 Third Vice Executive Judge Virgilio Macaraig to 39-year-old Alvin Comia, who was residing in Punta, Sta. Ana.
But Comia sensed the police presence outside his house and reportedly opened fire at the operatives, forcing PO1 Princeton Felia to fire at him.
An exchange of gunfire ensued when Comia’s cohort, Gaerlan Makahilig, who was in the house, fired at the policemen. The two men died on the spot. (Jaimie Rose A. Aberia)
