JUST A THOUGHT: “To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to do.” – Kahlil Gibran

WIVES ON TRIAL ON TV: In the midst of gender repositioning stories swirling here and there, the local entertainment scene is throbbing with wife-y stories that spell temptation.
Star Cinema is currently filming “The Unmarried Wife,” starring Angelica Panganiban torn between Dingdong Dantes and Paulo Avelino.
At the same time, ABS-CBN is shooting a drama series called “My Second Wife,” with Bea Alonzo, Iza Calzado, and Ian Veneracion in the lead roles.
Husband-wife relations earlier went to bed in TV series such as “My Husband’s Lover,” “My Faithful Husband,” “The Millionaire’s Wife.” On the big screen there were “My Other Woman” and “The Other Woman.”
Not yet tackled in a local series are stories inspired by husbands who choose to become trans women/transgender midstream. The revelations by Bruce Jenner, who is now known as Caitlyn Jenner and Ian King, now responding to the name Angelina Mead King, are current examples.
Surely, our society has changed tremendously, making the world a different place to live in. Marriage as an institution is being challenged by changing moral values and attitudes.
It is our hope that when media celebrates such movements and changes in social behavior, it is with the intention that we do not only shed light on these changes. More important, that we respect individual choices made even as we do the same to tested social institutions, marriage being one of them. (NESTOR CUARTERO)
