The Philippine National Police Criminal-Investigation and Detection Group arrested a top leader of the New People’s Army in a follow-up operation in Cebu City Friday, police reported yesterday.
Amelia Pond was arrested in Barangay Luz on the day National Democratic Front of the Philippines consultants Benito and Wilma Tiamzon were released from detention in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
Chief Supt. Roel Obusan, PNP-CIDG director, said Pond was collared intelligence reports that she has been staying in Cebu were confirmed.
“There is an existing arrest warrant for her, for cases of murder and frustrated murder, and it was the one used to arrest her,” said Obusan.
Pond, alias “Adelfa Toledo,” is a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee Komisyong Mindanao of the NPA.
She is also the head the Regional Instructors Bureau under the Political Department and Underground Movement since 1978.
In 1998, she was named second deputy secretary of the Komiteng Hukom of the Davao Oriental Provincial Committee and was named secretary of the Guerilla Front 15 and 18 of the Sub-Regional Committee 1 and 2 of the SMRC from 1990 to 1995. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
