Team Philippines Turbo skipper Tani Gomez expects a strong competition as his team aims for back-to-back titles in the 3rd edition of the Smart Infinity Pilipinas Beach Water Polo Tournament today at the Sunrise View Beach Resort in Igacos, Davao del Norte.
The veteran goalkeeper of the national team said that the visiting squad from Thailand expects to provide the biggest threat in their bid to retain the title though he is not discounting the other local teams.
“It’s going to be tough competition, we know it’s not going to be easy but we’re prepared to defend the championship and we’ll do whatever it takes to repeat as champions,” said Gomez.
Returning to the competition Sureshot, which – then anchored by Gomez – captured the inaugural event organized by Dale Evangelista’s Optimum Sports by beating Guam.
Roy Cañete, another veteran national team campaigner, will now lead the bid of Sureshot. The other two teams are Thailand and Envirotech, which will parade the local team from Davao.
“We’re expecting another exciting and action-packed event in this third edition of Pilipinas Beach Water Polo Tournament,” said Evangelista, a former national team campaigner who will play for Sureshots.
“Our goal of course is to continue promoting the event, now only here but also internationally that’s why we keep on encouraging foreign teams to join the event and we’re happy to have Thailand,” he added.
The event is also made possible by Turbo, a swimwear brand made in Spain, Sureshot Sports Ville, Envirotech, PLDT Home Fibr, Sunrise View Beach Resort, Gardenia, Crocodile Park, Prima Deportes, Philippine Swimming and the Philippine Sports Commission.
