House leaders yesterday frowned at the proposed appointment of barangay officers-in-charge during the imminent year-long postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers and AKO Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe agreed that appointing OICs instead of holding over the barangay captains with expired terms would actually create more problems for the Duterte administration.
“We don’t want to undergo a highly-politicized exercise. Who will make the appointments? The President? It would be impossible for him to know and chose the right people in all 42,000 barangays in the country,” Barbers said in an interview. (Ellson A. Quismorio)
