Jose Rizal University bounced back from a heartbreaking loss four days back as it trounced College of St. Benilde, 71-63, yesterday in NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Bombers dictated the tempo all throughout to clinch their eighth victory against six losses at fifth place.
The win also eased the stigma left by their 63-60 defeat over Emilio Aguinaldo College last Tuesday that halted their four-game winning streak.
Abdel Poutouochi bannered JRU by shooting 14 points, collaring seven rebounds and swatting away two blocks, while Paolo Pontejos and Teytey Teodoro added 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Leading 42-36 early in the third period, the Bombers ripped the game open with a 12-0 blast starring Teodoro for a 54-36 cushion.
From there, JRU held on to its double-digit lead until the final buzzer.
“One game at a time. As long as we stay disciplined, and the desire to win is there, we can do it,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses, referring to their Final Four bid.
