12 noon – NU vs Ateneo (m/finals)
4 p.m. – NU vs UP (w/semis)
6 p.m. – FEU vs Ateneo (w/semis)
NU, Ateneo hope to put away foes.
Reigning champion National University and fancied Ateneo aim for a sweep of their respective semifinal series when they clash with separate foes today in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Bulldogs take on the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons at 4 p.m. while the Lady Eagles square off with the Far Eastern University Lady Tams at 6 p.m. in Game 2 of their best-of-three affairs.
Victories for both NU and Ateneo would arrange them a championship duel after drawing first blood in Game 1 last Monday.
NU assistant coach Edjet Mabbayad stuck to his starters and outlasted UP, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, while Ateneo overpowered a limping FEU side, 25-14, 28-26, 25-22.
Jaja Santiago is set to banner the Lady Bulldogs anew after sizzling with 22 points the last time, even as Jorelle Singh shared the spotlight with a season-high 22 points.
But the Lady Maroons are expected to avenge their loss in order to make it to the finals for the first time.
Issa Molde and Nicole Tiamzon, who combined for 30 points in the opener, will continue to lead UP’s assault, while Kathy Bersola hopes to regain her lost touch after scoring only five points.
Help will also come from Justine Dorog and Diana Carlos, but they must double their efforts to match NU’s strong reinforcement in Aiko Urdas, Jasmine Nabor, and Risa Sato.
Meanwhile, championship action heats up in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference also at the same venue pitting defending champion Ateneo and NU.
The 12 noon tussle is a sequel of last year’s hostilities, with the Eagles sweeping the Bulldogs for the title.
Game 2 is set on Saturday also at the same venue, while Game 3, if necessary, will be on Sept. 12.
