The Presidential Security Group (PSG) is currently investigating one of its men whose name cropped up during the House of Representatives inquiry on illegal drug trade in National Bilibid Prisons (NBP).
Lt. Col. Michael T. Aquino, assistant chief of Staff for the Civil Military Operations (CMO), G7, said Air Force Sgt. Jonel Sanchez was a member of the PSG who was detailed to then Justice Secretary Leila de Lima during the Aquino administration.
Sanchez was named by convicted robber Herbert Colangco as De Lima’s bagman when she was still DoJ secretary.
Aquino said the command requested for his reassignment outside PSG effective July 1, 2016. However, he is still securing his pertinent papers in the unit for his new assignment.
Aquino said that upon hearing Sanchez’ alleged link to De Lima during the House hearing, the command immediately conducted an investigation.
“To ensure his safety, the PSG has confined Sgt. Sanchez in the barracks for the investigation. The command cannot give further details as of this time since we do not want to pre-empt the investigation that is being undertaken by the House of Representatives,” Aquino said. (Francis T. Wakefield)
