The country’s tough-talking leader has a mischievous potty mouth and the public would just have to live with it.
President Duterte has made no secret about his use of foul language even during the campaign and still managed to win voters’ support despite his vulgar remarks, according to Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.
Andanar defended the President after drawing criticisms for his profanity-filled attacks against foreign leaders and organizations that criticized his bloody campaign against illegal drugs.
“Pagdating po doon sa lengguwahe ng ating Pangulo kapag ginagamit niya po iyong “PI” na word ay sinabi na naman ng Pangulo na ito talaga ay kanyang nakasanayan na at ito talaga ‘yung the way that he talks so wala ho naman tayong tinatago at hindi naman tayo nagkunwari din,” Andanar said over government radio.
Andanar pointed out that the President’s supporters also don’t seem to mind his foul mouth. “Ang ating Pangulo noong siya ay kumakandidato ay kanya pong binabanggit iyong ‘PI’ sa mga sorties. At sa kabila noon, nanalo siya sa pagka-Pangulo. Ibig sabihin po ang ating mga kababayan ay mas malalim ang kanilang tingin sa Pangulo,” he said.
Meanwhile, Duterte is not asking for “the moon and stars” when he pressed the United Nations and the European Union to give him chance to air his side on the alleged summary killings of drug criminals in the country, Malacañang said yesterday.
Andanar assured that the President is ready to cooperate with the foreign probers but insisted that his condition to ask them questions was also reasonable. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
