ILOILO CITY – Philippine flags will be flown in half-mast in this city starting today as Ilonggos grieve over the death of former Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog on Thursday signed Executive Order 48 declaring September 29, 2016 as a day of mourning and for flags to flay at half-mast until October 7.
“The Iloilo City government is one with nation in expressing sadness and grief on the death of former senator Santiago,” the order reads.
“She brought pride and honor to all Ilonggos by serving in all branches of government during her lifetime,” Mabilog said in his executive order.
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. also mourned the death of Miriam, his first cousin.
Defensor said the senator’s death is a very sad day for the Ilonggos and the Filipinos as a whole. (PNA)
