La Salle Zobel primed up for another show of dominance after taking the lead in five different divisions heading into the final round of the JGFP Inter-school Golf Championships in different venues.
Already assured of the Girls 1 and Girls 2 titles, the Zobel golfers were also far ahead in Aspirants 2 and Juniors 2 and held a seven-point advantage in Juniors 1 after three rounds of play in the event organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
In the other divisions, Xavier was on top by a big margin in Aspirants 1 while Ateneo was also virtually unassailable in women’s college play.
The task of completing a five-division sweep will be left at the hands of La Salle Zobel’s Juniors 1 squad which is nursing a slim lead against Ateneo, 452-445.
La Salle Zobel was up by 23 points in Juniors 1 over Ateneo (415-392) and by 69 over another Ateneo crew (252-183) in Aspirants 2 play. Its two girls teams are unchallenged in their respective divisions.
Ateneo held a 49-point lead over La Salle-Taft in college play while Xavier, with a 331 total, was up by 32 points in Aspirants 1.
The chase for the individual title was more exciting with Aniceto Mandanas of LS-Zobel up by two over Ateneo’s Carl Corpus (159-157) in Juniors and Sean Jean Ramos of LS-Zobel protecting a three-point lead over Harry Back of MIT (150-147) in Juniors 2.
